RPSC will be conducting the Rajasthan State and Subordinate Services Mains exam and now is the time that candidates gear up their preparation. It is always better to start early and be ahead of your competition. The secret to nailing this exam is to acquaint yourself with the RPSC RAS exam pattern and its syllabus.

RPSC RAS Mains Exam Pattern

The Main examination has four papers, 3 of general studies, and 1 for General Hindi and General English, each having 200 marks and 3 hours duration. This is just an overview of the exam pattern and each paper will be having questions of 2, 5, and 10 marks.

Preparation Strategy for RPSC RAS Syllabus

The number of subjects and areas of study in this exam is vast. So as an aspirant, you have three variables: Number of subjects, Depth of study that is required in each subject, and the Time available. Your job maximizing the product of these three variables. For example, if you are studying History in depth but you fail to cover the basics of current affairs or geography your chances of passing the exam less. Therefore, it is better to have a good amount of understanding of all subjects, so that you can attempt a greater number of questions in the exam.

  •  In the first part of the deconstructed syllabus, you must go through the basics of Modern India, Indian & World Geography, World History, and Indian & World Economy.

  • For the second part of the deconstructed syllabus, i.e. the Rajasthan specific part goes through the mains specific portion and especially on Rajasthani culture, History, and Geography.

  • For the Sociology part, refer to the IGNOU material.

  • For the Accounting and auditing part, refer to the relevant chapters of class 11th and 12th Commerce NCERTs books and T.N. Chhabra.

  • For the Behaviour part, Psychology you should refer to relevant chapters from NCERT books for class 11th and 12th. Lakshmikanth for topics such as Leadership and motivation can be referred.

  • For the Law part, you can prepare the basic definitions from the IGNOU material. For the legal issues such as sexual harassment at the workplace Act, RTI, POCSO, etc, you only need to know the basic provisions, the analysis in terms of their effectiveness, relevance, and the challenges in their implementation and recent amendments, if any.

  • Science and Technology can be prepared with the help of NCERTs books from relevant topics from the class 6th to 12th. Especially, current affairs and relevant policies.

  • For Sports and Yoga, you must be thorough with the important games, recent awardees, for example, Gold Coast, commonwealth games 2018, etc., Sports Policies, the Awards instituted in India and their significance, Yoga- its importance, basic poses, and yoga as India's soft power.

  • Refer Economic Review of Government of Rajasthan for Government Schemes, current National and Local Daily for current affairs, and Economic Survey for GOI Schemes. Make sure to note down all the important events in your notes for the exam.

  • Lastly, never ignore Hindi and English as you can easily get good scores if you prepare well, especially in the grammar portion. Practice the different formats for notification, government circulars, formal letters, etc.
